Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 12 "Macrocosm" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode that's a mix between "Genesis" and "Starship Mine" where two officers return from a shuttle mission to find the ship in disarray just like "Genesis" But instead of the crew being de-evolved they've been overrun but giant virus bugs. And so just like "Starship Mine" Janeway has act like a bad ass going around with a big gun kicking the bad guys' asses, but in this case it's giant germs instead of Mercenaries This episode isn't particularly original nor is it particularly deep but it is a fun popcorn watch. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 9 "The Ascent" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where we experience the whole shuttle craft crash cliché for the umpteenth time, but this time it features Quark and Odo sniping at each other for 40 minutes of screen time. Don't get me wrong, I love the Quark and Odo dynamic, but I often compare to really rich dark chocolate: great in small doses but too much it's kind of gross. And we also get introduced to a Brand New Character in this episode, they refer to him as Nog and he's also played by a Aaron Eisenberg but since it's a new character I call him Bog to distinguish from the other totally different character. And they use him for a dumb and cliché story that's literally been done before on this show. Join me as I review the second TNG film, a beloved film that many consider one of the best Star Trek movies, and although I do like, I don't quite agree that it's as good as everyone says, as I think it has structural problems and the character of the Borg Queen was a bad idea that never should have been introduced. But I do like Patrick Stewart's acting.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 10 "Warlord" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Kes' body is taken over by a Warlord. In a sort of rehash of the DS9 episode "The Passenger" where Bashir goes to treat a criminal and instead the criminal uploads his conciseness into him in order to kill people and do evil things. Same thing happens here except with Kes instead of Bashir. And on top of that it's derivative of many Trek episodes where someone's body is taken over, be that Power Play, The Assignment, Return to Tomorrow and much, much more. And it offers nothing new, and begins the Season 3 tradition of trying to sexualize Kes as much as possible. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 7 "Let he who is without sin" explained. Join me as I review and recap the infamously bad episode where Worf and Dax go to the Risa and argue with each other the whole entire time. Worf joins a group of conservative "family values" time who tries to get Risa shut down because they think they make the Federation weak, and they even resort to terrorist tactics to accomplish their goals. And Worf tells a sad story about accidently killing a kid in a soccer game when he was younger, which was beyond riciculoua. So yeah this episodes earns its reputation as being terrible. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episodes 8 & 9 "Future's End Parts 1 and 2" explained. Join me as I review and recap the two parter that tries to recapture the magic of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and fails miserably. The "present day" LA doesn't feel like present day, it's too goofy and cheesy, it feels like something dreamed up by studio execs who are out of touch with modern culture. And the dialog seems like it was written by boomers who don't understand how young people talk. And the jokes mostly don't land. And the time travel logic makes absolutely no sense, so the plot is a giant mess. And Ed Begley Jr. may be a good actor but was totally miscast for this role. But hey, at least Sarah Silverman is good in this episode. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 6 "Trials and Tribble-ations" explained. Join me as I review and recap the great and renown episode that takes old TOS footage and splices in the (then) modern characters of DS9. And this was glorious and done so well where it seems nearly seamless. And it's a great tribute to The Original Series, and it's Deep Space Nine acknowledging its roots. I mean how great is it to see Sisko talking to Captain Kirk. However all that being said, this episode is great at what it does, but it's just a tribute episode. Many people call this the best episode of DS9 and frankly I find that insulting. This does not represent DS9. DS9 is a great show on its own merits, for its amazing characters, hard hitting commentary, tear jerking drama and complex stories of intrigue, and this episode has NONE of that. And let's be honest here the story and plot is paper thin, and quite frankly bad, because it exists only to serve the nostalgia. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it's by no means one of the best episodes of DS9. So that makes it in my opinion the MOST overrated episode of the entire Star Trek franchise. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 7 "Sacred Ground" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Kes (out of character) wanders off and sticks her hand in a giant weird glowing thingy and then (shocker of all shocks) is put in a coma and is in danger of dying. So Janeway then must complete these religious rituals and go on her own spiritual journey in order save Kes' life, but actually it turns out none of that was necessary all she had to do was take some space molly and give some to Kes and walk back into the glowing death device, but the episode is going to act like Janeway had some profound spiritual growth even though it wasn't at all earned. But not to worry because this will never ever be mentioned again.
