Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Join me as I review and recap number 17 in my Top 25 Worst Episodes of the Star Trek Franchise list: Rivals. The episode that follows an uninteresting con man who sucks as a con man and stereotyped as a listener hard! He gets into a rivalery with Quark, something I couldn't possibly care less about, meanwhile he has these luck controlling balls that cause people everywhere on the station to trip and fall and bang their hands against the wall because they have bad luck. So easily one of the dumbest, childish plot line in Trek history.

Join me as I review and recap the episode that makes an analogy about refugees, but doesn't do a particularly good job at it, as the story meanders and doesn't have a focus nor a particularly clear message. Also the analogy to modern times doesn't work, because unlike modern day refugees, these Gamma Quadrant refugees are offered a perfect paradise planet by a benevolent post-scarcity civilization and THAT certainly doesn't happen in modern times. But there are some good character moments for Kira, and it delves a bit deeper into Bajoran culture, and the ambiguity of the story does work for the tone of DS9, I like how the viewer is left to make up their own mind rather than being told what to think by the script.

Join me as I review and recap this parallel universe hopping episode, that uses the concept of parallel universes in a unique way as Worf jumps between universes that are very similar to his own, but start to get more and more different as he eventually finds himself in universes where he's married to Counselor Troi. It's an amazing episode and one of the best of the show.

Join me as I review and recap this terrible romance of the week episode. With a romance so terrible and with zero chemistry you absolutely don't buy it. And also there's a sci-fi about an unhappy house wife psycho-projecting a person that Sisko has a fling with that makes zero sense when you think about it and is just a bunch of plot contrivances. But there are some good character moments with Sisko and Jake and Sisko and Dax and it introduces an eccentric terraformer who is somewhat interesting as well, so not a total loss.

Join me as I review and recap another episode in season 7 where an unexpected family member turns up, this time it's Data's mother, making Data the character whose family is explored the most. While the writers do they damnedest to fit this into canon it always feels out of place and a last minute add on that they crammed in there, and it is completely unnecessary to Data's over all story. That being said, there are some good character moments in this episode for Data, so it's not a total loss.

Join me as I review and recap our first look at Terrok Nor during the Occupation and Odo's origin story about how he came to Terrok Nor, meeting Dukat, Kira, and Quark. And this is all couched in a hard boiled detective Noir story line where Quark's life hangs in the balance. A good solid dark episode of DS9 that is the show beginning to take shape and become it's own thing a part from TNG. I'm not that big of a fan of the Noir tone so I may not like this episode as much as some do, but still a solid outing.

Join me as I review and recap this analogy on climate change, as the Enterprise encounter too scientists with a theory that warp travel is destroying space. That theory is later proven to be fact, when a rift is formed that endangers the Enterprise. This episode is not well liked, but I always had a soft spot for it. The way it depicts climate activists I think rings true, and it's got some good character moments, and some suspense as well as great music, so it always worked for me.

Join me as I review and recap this decent Ferengi episode, which doesn't totally suck so that's a big achievement for a Ferengi episode. This one is modeled after the Twelfth Night, so it makes some interesting commentary on how women are treated in Ferengi culture, certainly does a better job than later Ferengi episodes will do. And we get our first mention of the Dominion in this episode so that's cool. But yeah it is a Ferengi episode with a lot of dumb jokes that aren't funny so it can only go so far.

Join me as I review and recap the episode where Picard and Beverly kind of sort of, but not really have a romance. After years of building up this epic romance between two main characters they FINALLY... tease it a little more then drop it and waste everyone's time. There's also some guffy side plot with Qanon Aliens who are paranoid about everything, which is whatever.
