Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Join me as I review and recap this fairly good, but overrated episode about the crew losing their memories; Data thinks he's a bar tending, Worf thinks he's the Captain, Riker and Ro think they're lovers and Troi think she's good at her job. But all the while they're being manipulated by DUFF MAN who's an alien from a race so inferior the Enterprise can swat them like flies yet somehow has the technology to block very specific memories from a varied group of aliens they never met, including DATA, and wipe the computers of a ship with technology far superior to their own... yeah sure.

Join me as I review what I'm calling part 4 of 4 of the Stretch of Boring, that is four boring episodes in a row, this is the last and most boring episode in the lot, as they come across a genetically engineered society where everyone has to be just right for it to function, so when the Enterprise comes to save it from the threat of the week, it damages their fragile society, proving it shouldn't exist in the first place. And Troi has an affair with the society's leader where she feels really guilty about it, but no one else cares. #pieceofshitsociety

Join me as I review what I'm calling part 3 of 4 of the Stretch of Boring, that is four boring episodes in a row, this is one isn't that boring, but it doesn't really work either. It tries to make commentary on sexual assault but doesn't do a particularly good job at it. It once again makes Troi the victim, and doesn't really have anything significant to say on the subject which makes it a bit problematic. And it gives away who the villain is in the first 2 minutes of the episode, which really deflates the rest of the episode. But it does have a couple of well shot, well edited dream sequences, so there is that.

Join me as I review what I'm calling part 2 of 4 of the Stretch of Boring, that is four boring episodes in a row, this is the another season 5 episode about children, and it features a young boy who imitates Data after his parents and everyone else on his ship was killed. But instead of exploring how traumatized he is, they focus on how "funny" it is that he wants to be like Data, and the threat of the week is just a bunch of technobabble nonsense that no one cares about.

Join me as I review what I'm calling part 4 of 4 of the Stretch of Boring, that is four boring episodes in a row, this the first and the series, and the A Plot should have been a B Plot in a better episode, and the B plot shouldn't exist because no one could care less about it. While the concept of Worf learning to be a father is a worthwhile story, that's not enough here to sustain a whole episode.

Join me as I give my recap and movie review to the 6th and final movie to feature The Original Series cast: "The Undiscovered Country". I explore the many aspects of this film, the behind the scenes situation leading up to the film, so dropped storylines, and what I thought of the film overall, which is although I liked it I don't think it's quite as good as most people make it out to be. It makes some poignant commentary on the fall of the Soviet Union, and features some great suspense and political intrigue, but the middle drags a bit, and the tone is a bit too militaristic for my taste in Trek, and the ending is kind of goofy.

Join me as I review and recap this aggressively average episode. Max Headroom guest stars in a role specifically written for Robin Williams but he dropped out so instead we get Matt Fewer who does a really good job, but not nearly as good as Robin Williams would have done. So this is a somewhat interesting time travel story with a throw away B plot and a good Picard speech.

Join me, Alyssa and Darrin as we continue to countdown my Top 25 episodes of the entire Star Trek franchise. We're up to my number 10 which is the 3rd season Enterprise episode "The Council", which is my stand end for the ending of the Xindi arc in Season 3, which is amazing, but this episode stands out in particular to me, as it features a tense negoation, a surprise death, Archer being called to the princeple's office, and a red shirt death that people actually care about. All in all an amazing episode.

Join me as I review and recap the appearance of Leonard as Spock in TNG. Does this two parter live up to the hype? Kind of, sort of. This two parter would be better if it wasn't a two parter, as the first part is all set up, and the whole side plot with Riker looking for stolen Vulcan ships is a giant waste of time. And Sela certainly comes off as a mustache twirling two dimensional villain, BUT the interactions between Spock with Picard and Data were gold, and it's a deeper look into Romulan culture which was appreciated, so all in all these episodes are "not bad".

One of the silliest, and dumbest episodes of the show, and one of the worst examples of the "Wesley save the ship" cliche, as he and his girlfriend are the only ones who don't notice that everyone is acting like drugged out zombies, pushing a weird game on everyone. Even Picard and Worf, no f****** way. And the evil villains plot to try to take over starfleet with a mind controlling game, where it's freaking obvious that victims are being mind controlled, is the dumbest evil plot in TNG. However Wesley's girlfriend played by Ashley Judd is actually a good character and this is a good relationship for Wesley, much better than the muppet shape shifter, so at least the episode has that going for it.
