Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 16 "Doctor Bashir, I Presume" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode with the worst retcon in Star Trek history: making doctor Bashir genetically enhanced. It's obvious that this was thought up on the spot specifically to make this episode more interesting, but it tries to retcon the entire history of a main character and it just does not fit at all, it comes off as reckless and lazy writing. That being said the episode is mildly entertaining Robert Picardo hams it up as the EMH's egotistical creator and meeting Bashir's parents is interesting, so yeah kind of a middle of the road episode. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episodes 14 & 15 "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light explained. Join me as I review and recap what I like to call course correction: the two parter. Since Season 4 DS9 has been on the wrong path in regards to several story lines, namely the Klingons being enemies and Dukat being an ally. This two parter puts things right the way they should be, with the introduction of the story of Cardassia joining the Dominion under the leadership of Gul Dukat. This makes it clear who the main enemies are: The Dominion and the Cardassians and more specifically Gul Dukat. While brining the Klingons back where they belong as uneasy allies of the Federation. However the two parter itself isn't amazing as the storyline of Worf and Garak being trapped in a Dominion prison camp was kind of cliché and boring. And there are two bait and switches in this episode where we think we're going to get a huge battle but don't. But over all enjoyed this episode Dukat himself said it best when he told Kira that being on the same side didn't feel quite right. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 13 "Blood Fever" explained. Join me as I review and recap what I'm also calling part 3 of 3 in the REAL trilogy of terror (not that fake trilogy that everyone else talks about). This is the episode that begins one of the worst romances in Star Trek: The Tom / B'Elanna romance, the two never had any chemistry and they made no sense together. And we get a pon farr story but not with Tuvok like everyone expected, no instead they introduce some random Vulcan and he has pon farr and somehow passes it to B'Elanna.... (shaking my head). And the way pon farr is portrayed in this episode is incredibly inconsistent with everything that's been established. i.e. this is not how pon farr works. So ultimately this is a terrible episode worthy of the REAL trilogy of terror. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 12 "The Begotten" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Odo becomes a daddy to a baby changeling that he's trying to teach to learn how to shape shift. While his daddy: Mora Pol comes aboard to push for a harsher upbringing one that Odo still holds resentment for. They argue, they bond, the baby dies but gives Odo his shape shifting abilities back, it's a great character story for Odo and a touching story. There's also a B plot with Kira giving birth where Shakaar was being a dick, I could have done without that. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 13 "Fair Trade" explained. Join me as I review and recap #22 in my Top 25 Worst Episodes of the entire Star Trek franchise, and what I'm also calling part 1 of 3 in the REAL trilogy of terror (not that fake trilogy that everyone else talks about). The episode begins with an interesting enough premise of Harry Kim wanting to adapt the non-emotional philosophy of the Vulcans but it's executed all wrong. It turns out it's just Kim behaving like an immature adolescent and was never really serious about it. Plus Tuvok sucks as a mentor as when Kim tells him that he suffering from a case of unrequited love the first thing Tuvok does is to force Kim to interact with the woman he's in love with, which is the last thing you should do. So both characters are WILDLY out of character. And then the episode turns into a "Fatal Attraction" rip off (which isn't a good movie to begin with) when the woman on the space station using the hologram as an avatar becomes obsessed with Tuvok to the point where she threatens to destroy the whole ship. And instead of saying "I won't be ignored" she says "you can't just delete me". Clever. This whole episode is terrible, has terrible music, terrible writing it just doesn't work. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 13 "Fair Trade" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where we officially mark the end of the era of The Kazon and Vidiians and enter the era of the boring alien of the week. Here we travel to a station where Neelix meets up with an old shady friend who gets him in trouble. Because Neelix is being absurdly obtuse and out of character by believing Voyager would kick him off the ship just because they're entering space he isn't familiar with. And we get a couple of crime drama clichés and then we're done. So yeah, this is certainly an episode that exists.
