Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 2 Episode 11 "Maneuvers" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Seska returns and manages to out maneuver Voyager at every turn to try to get Starfleet technology for the Kazon. But Chakotay defies orders and nearly sacrificing himself to stop her. Not an amazing episode but does reinforce how much better the villains were in earlier seasons as Seska was easily the best villian of the show. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4 Episode 8 "The Sword of Kahless" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode that does the old tired clichéd gold fever storyline where Worf is so out of character a lot of the audience assumed there was some technology or magic effected him, but no it was just bad writing. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4 Episode 7 "Little Green Men" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode with the silly premise of Quark, Rom, and Nog being the Roswell aliens as a freak accident takes the trio back in time to the 1950's. Look I admit the premise sounds funny, but I find the episode itself to be mostly boring. It's just the 3 of them sitting in a room being questioned by a bunch of flat caricatures and nothing really happens in it. Are there a few funny moments in this episode? Sure. Enough to justify it's existence? No. I don't really find this episode funny overall, I just find it boring. But that's just me, I know a lot of other people love this episode I frankly can't see why. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Star Trek: Voyager Season 2 Episode 9 "Tattoo" explained. Join me as I review and recap the first big Chakotay episode that really gets into his character and back story with his father. However it is also controversial in its handling of Native American culture which is criticized by not being accurate. This has to do with the show's advisor on Native American culture being a known fraud. While I'm sure the show runners' hearts were in the right place, they wanting to continue Star Trek's tradition of inclusiveness, their execution had a lot to be desired. This is further complicated by the ending of the episode that implies aliens (played by white actors) helped the Native Americans settle the Americas and they were the only reason they thrived. Which I admit is not good optics, but it does seem like something Star Trek (TOS) would do. But despite this, I still found it to be a strong character story for Chakotay. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4 Episode 6 "Starship Down" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode that tries to be like "Balance of Terror" and "Disaster" and ends up doing neither very well and is done much better years later in "Strange New Worlds". The cat and mouse theme with Jem'hadar is exciting and works for a while until we get to the Disaster elements, then the episode kind of falls apart. Sisko and Kira act like they're not close friends which they are. Kira acts like she worships Sisko as a deity, which she doesn't. Worf acts like he doesn't know how to communicate with Junior officers, which he does. The Karemma act like their honest actors who value honesty in business, which they're not. And the Bashir and Dax thing is fine, but nothing really happens in it. So all in all this episode is a disaster. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Star Trek: Voyager Season 2 Episode 8 "Persistence of Vision" explained. Join me as I review and recap a very creepy episode, one that I thought would suck because it was focused on Janeway's Gothic Holonovel, but it turned out to be one of the creepiest episodes of Trek and super intense. And I love how it uses Kes and her telepathic abilities. It may goes a bit too far at the end, but still has a strong sense of foreboding through out the episode as the crew start to succumb to delusions. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis

Rejoined DS9 Season 4,Episode 5

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4 Episode 5 "Rejoined" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode with the first same sex couple kiss in Star Trek, but it's more than just that it tells a great a powerful love story and the kiss isn't done as a ploy. In fact it's never even mentioned that the two lovers are the same sex implying such matters don't matter in the 24th century, however at the same time the story of the Trill taboo of forbidden love tells an allegory of the discriminations that LGBTQ+ couples face. It's not a perfect analogy but it hits on key notes. In the episode Avery Brooks does a masterful job of directing, and Terry Ferrell gives perhaps the best performance in the show, as the chemistry between the characters is undeniable. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4 Episode 4 "Indiscretion" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Kira goes off with Dukat looking for a ship she knew about before the show started, because it had a friend she knew before the show started on it. And turns out that friend I care nothing about is in fact dead when they find the wreckage of the ship. But the real story kicks in when we learn Dukat had a mistress and a daughter on that ship. The mistress died but his illegitimate daughter survived, so in order to save his career he wants to kill his own daughter. Now this I would say is in line with Dukat's character however we spent most of the episode "bonding" with Kira and in the end Dukat does the right thing and comes off as an angel, so this portrayal I don't care for. Come see my first reaction as I breakdown the episode and attempt to give my in depth analysis
