Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews

Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 21 "Before and After" explained. Join me as I review and recap an episode that is a fan favorite, so I'm forced to give an unpopular opinion that many might disagree with because I did not care for this episode. I'm sorry but Kes and Tom being married and having a daughter who marries Harry Kim and they have son is a deal breaker for me. I find that idea so absurd and out of character for our main characters that I absolutely CAN NOT like this episode. This also continues the quest to utterly destroy Kes' character and turn her into sex appeal that began in "Warlord" and hit overdrive in "Darkling". By this episode her character is completely annihilated. Yes it introduces the year of hell concept and yes that is interesting, but it doesn't make up for this episode being a ridiculous soap opera that assassinates the character stories and just regurgitates all the Trek time travel clichés in the book. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 17 "A Simple Investigation" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where little Odo falls in lurve. Actually it's a good romance, I liked thought it made sense for Odo and had strong chemistry. And it was an intriguing crime mystery story as well. Although it probably should have happened while Odo was still a humanoid, but whatever. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 18 "Business as Usual" explained. Join me as I review and recap probably the best Quark character story in the show. Instead of doing a stupid comedy, this is actually a quite serious and suspenseful story. And a great character story for Quark as it shows how much he's grown since being around Hew-mons for too long. As he claims to be a true Ferengi at heart but when it comes down to it, there is a line that he won't cross where he won't profit off of the deaths of millions, even if it means he could be rich beyond his dreams. And the episode features some great guest character, it has Lawrence Tierney whom I recognize from "Reservoir Dogs" and a great guest character of the Arms Dealer who chews the hell out of the scenery but in the best way possible, as he comes off as scary and fascinating. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 20 "Favorite Son" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where they actually expected us to believe that Harry Kim was really an alien from the Delta Quadrant and it's just a happy coincidence that he happened to be on the one Federation ship that went to the Delta Quadrant, this is beyond stupid. But of course it turns out not to be the case (obviously) but what's more stupefying is that the writers originally intended to make this actually be the case and Kim would remain an alien for the remainder of the show. THANK GOD that didn't happen, sometimes studio interference can be a good thing. But other than that it's just your typical Sirens cliché, *yawn*. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 19 "Unity" explained. Join me as I review and recap an episode that's hated and I have no idea why. Sure the murder mystery plot is cliched, but it has a great character story between Tuvok and Neelix, one of the best the show as ever done. I love how Neelix finally calls Tuvok out on being a condescending prick, have been waiting forever for that. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 16 "Doctor Bashir, I Presume" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode with the worst retcon in Star Trek history: making doctor Bashir genetically enhanced. It's obvious that this was thought up on the spot specifically to make this episode more interesting, but it tries to retcon the entire history of a main character and it just does not fit at all, it comes off as reckless and lazy writing. That being said the episode is mildly entertaining Robert Picardo hams it up as the EMH's egotistical creator and meeting Bashir's parents is interesting, so yeah kind of a middle of the road episode. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episodes 14 & 15 "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light explained. Join me as I review and recap what I like to call course correction: the two parter. Since Season 4 DS9 has been on the wrong path in regards to several story lines, namely the Klingons being enemies and Dukat being an ally. This two parter puts things right the way they should be, with the introduction of the story of Cardassia joining the Dominion under the leadership of Gul Dukat. This makes it clear who the main enemies are: The Dominion and the Cardassians and more specifically Gul Dukat. While brining the Klingons back where they belong as uneasy allies of the Federation. However the two parter itself isn't amazing as the storyline of Worf and Garak being trapped in a Dominion prison camp was kind of cliché and boring. And there are two bait and switches in this episode where we think we're going to get a huge battle but don't. But over all enjoyed this episode Dukat himself said it best when he told Kira that being on the same side didn't feel quite right. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 13 "Blood Fever" explained. Join me as I review and recap what I'm also calling part 3 of 3 in the REAL trilogy of terror (not that fake trilogy that everyone else talks about). This is the episode that begins one of the worst romances in Star Trek: The Tom / B'Elanna romance, the two never had any chemistry and they made no sense together. And we get a pon farr story but not with Tuvok like everyone expected, no instead they introduce some random Vulcan and he has pon farr and somehow passes it to B'Elanna.... (shaking my head). And the way pon farr is portrayed in this episode is incredibly inconsistent with everything that's been established. i.e. this is not how pon farr works. So ultimately this is a terrible episode worthy of the REAL trilogy of terror.
