Enchantment of Eternity’s Star Trek Episode Reviews
Welcome to Enchantment of Eternity. I’m Marc, and I’m on a mission to analyze every episode of the Star Trek Franchise. I started with The Original Series, and then moved on to The Next Generation, and now I’m covering Deep Space Nine and Voyager in order of airdate. It’s my mission statement to always give my honest opinion on each and every episode regardless of what the popular opinion is, so sometimes I have some hot takes. I prefer character based stories. I try to analyze the writing, acting, cinematography, and music of each episode, with emphasis on the writing. I explore themes and commentaries on the episode and give my opinion on whether or not it works, as well as explore some behind the scenes tidbits and trivia, and share my personal experience with the episode. We also hear from my patreon supporters and what they think of the episode. So check me out and give it a listen.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 9 "The Darkness and the Light" explained. Join me as I review and recap the murder mystery episode where Kira's old resistance cell is being killed off one by one. And we come to find out it was some random Cardassian guy we've never heard of who apparently had his face scarred in an bombing executed by Kira during the Occupation. I guess this guy has never heard of a dermal regenerator, and he probably hasn't so the show can do it's obvious "Phantom of the Opera" homage. But some innocent civilians were also killed in the bombing so the show is trying to make some complex grey statement on Kira's past as a terrorist, but the show fails. Because The Cardassians were occupying another planet and committing a holocaust, which completely changes the context, making it incomparable with modern day terrorism as most don't have that context, and further most specifically target civilians, where Kira targeted a Gul who indiscriminately executed 50 Bajorans for no reason, who quite frankly is a legitimate target. So the more apt real life comparison would be to movements that resisted the Nazis during World War II who are now seen as totally justified. And place this guy murdered Kira's friends in cold blood using complex assassin skills (which I doubt he could have) so that makes him lose any moral high ground, so the question is not as grey and complex as the show wants it to be and instead it's pretty black and white: Kira's in the right and he's in the wrong, and thus the whole episode falls apart and is just about a cliché and weak murder mystery with a conclusion that is a giant letdown. If they wanted to have an interesting complex look at Kira's past, they could have done so by having a legitimate Cardassian civilian make a LEGAL claim that Kira was involved in killing civilians, make it a legal battle, and then it could have been a complex look at the moral greyness of the occupation. This is just some A hole murdering people, and refusing to acknowledge that he supported a genocide. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 12 "Macrocosm" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode that's a mix between "Genesis" and "Starship Mine" where two officers return from a shuttle mission to find the ship in disarray just like "Genesis" But instead of the crew being de-evolved they've been overrun but giant virus bugs. And so just like "Starship Mine" Janeway has act like a bad ass going around with a big gun kicking the bad guys' asses, but in this case it's giant germs instead of Mercenaries This episode isn't particularly original nor is it particularly deep but it is a fun popcorn watch. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 9 "The Ascent" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where we experience the whole shuttle craft crash cliché for the umpteenth time, but this time it features Quark and Odo sniping at each other for 40 minutes of screen time. Don't get me wrong, I love the Quark and Odo dynamic, but I often compare to really rich dark chocolate: great in small doses but too much it's kind of gross. And we also get introduced to a Brand New Character in this episode, they refer to him as Nog and he's also played by a Aaron Eisenberg but since it's a new character I call him Bog to distinguish from the other totally different character. And they use him for a dumb and cliché story that's literally been done before on this show. Join me as I review the second TNG film, a beloved film that many consider one of the best Star Trek movies, and although I do like, I don't quite agree that it's as good as everyone says, as I think it has structural problems and the character of the Borg Queen was a bad idea that never should have been introduced. But I do like Patrick Stewart's acting.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episode 10 "Warlord" explained. Join me as I review and recap the episode where Kes' body is taken over by a Warlord. In a sort of rehash of the DS9 episode "The Passenger" where Bashir goes to treat a criminal and instead the criminal uploads his conciseness into him in order to kill people and do evil things. Same thing happens here except with Kes instead of Bashir. And on top of that it's derivative of many Trek episodes where someone's body is taken over, be that Power Play, The Assignment, Return to Tomorrow and much, much more. And it offers nothing new, and begins the Season 3 tradition of trying to sexualize Kes as much as possible. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5 Episode 7 "Let he who is without sin" explained. Join me as I review and recap the infamously bad episode where Worf and Dax go to the Risa and argue with each other the whole entire time. Worf joins a group of conservative "family values" time who tries to get Risa shut down because they think they make the Federation weak, and they even resort to terrorist tactics to accomplish their goals. And Worf tells a sad story about accidently killing a kid in a soccer game when he was younger, which was beyond riciculoua. So yeah this episodes earns its reputation as being terrible. Star Trek: Voyager Season 3 Episodes 8 & 9 "Future's End Parts 1 and 2" explained. Join me as I review and recap the two parter that tries to recapture the magic of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and fails miserably. The "present day" LA doesn't feel like present day, it's too goofy and cheesy, it feels like something dreamed up by studio execs who are out of touch with modern culture. And the dialog seems like it was written by boomers who don't understand how young people talk. And the jokes mostly don't land. And the time travel logic makes absolutely no sense, so the plot is a giant mess. And Ed Begley Jr. may be a good actor but was totally miscast for this role. But hey, at least Sarah Silverman is good in this episode.
